Charlie Ballard, a Two-Spirit comedian who has appeared on Comedy Central and LOGO television networks, is headlining a comedy show in Pocatello, Idaho on November 20, 2009. He'll be performing with drag queens Spyke Naugahyde and Spirit Wildcat and comedians Kristee Ono, Al Gonzales, and Awet Teame.
First, I wanna say a big Me-Gwetch (Thank You) to all the kind Native people out there, Two-Spirit and non Two-Spirit, who have watched my online videos and who also have passed them on to there family and friends. People are still watching my old Logo clip and it's been seen practically all over the world. This girl even wrote in and said my Logo clip was featured in her college classroom, isn't that crazy? The Four Directions Comedy show is about diversity and unity. It's about laughing and celebrating our personal, cultural similarities and differences. Each comedian represents their respective direction. Within the last couple of decades, a Lakota Sioux elder prophesized the return and unification of the Four Nations - Red, Yellow, White, and Black. As the story goes, when the Creator made the Earth, the last thing to be put on it was the people. When the Creator asked the spirits who wanted to be the first people, there was much bickering and fighting amongst the spirits over who it was going to be, so the Creator decided to split up the spirits up into the Four Directions - North, South, West, and East. The Creator said in the beginning we'll be separated but would eventually come back together to share what we've learned to get through our problems. It was prophesized that it would happen here on Turtle Island - North American continent. The "Four Directions Comedy Show" is also part of the ISU Native Awareness Cultural Month. For those upcoming Idaho shows we're also going to have local Two-Spirit Drag performer Spirit Wildcat, (Shoshone/Bannock) open our shows for us! So, if you're in the area, come check us out!
